Three
years was a long wait for all Cajun fans to hear the latest delicacy by Marc
& The Boiled Crawfish. Contrary to other bands, the team takes it's time
to put a new album out. And in their case it's not just a matter of financial
resources, it's namely their belief that a new production needs to surpass
the previous in quality. The only Cajun / Zydeco band in Switzerland did,
despite excellent work on their previous release, just that. They are by no
means boiled, but full of beans. The live, play, cook and eat Cajun and most
probably they also dream about this culture at night.
Mudbug Business offers fourteen songs, mostly written by the best known songwriters of this scene. Legendary Amédé Ardoin and Canray Fontenot would be more than pleased to hear the covers of their tracks 'Tit Monde and Quoi Faire if only they would not have passed away long time ago. Even on CD the only instrumental, Chère Bébé, let you feel the fun this band has playing and the listener can easily imagine what would happen if this band parties live on stage.
My personal favorites are Johnnie Billy Goat and Adieu Rosa. Listening to Marc's lead vocals you can hear that he has reached a level of interpreting the slang of the Cajun region in a way that he might soon be recognized as a freeman of Southern Louisiana. The band has added more gigs to their tour schedule but there are still too many promoters who dread to add Cajun/Zydeco to their festivals. Some more valor by these promoters would certainly help even though Swiss folks usually don't listen to what they don't know. But only by more frequent concerts and positive critics this sound can reach more and more people and convert them into fans.
