Rhythm Records has inked a contract with Michael Martin Murphey to release
several productions and Murph has hit again with the first record under this
deal. Buckaroo Blue Grass II – Riding Song offers several of Murphey’s
classic, mostly self-penned favorites, such as Backslider’s Wine
or Cosmic Cowboy. But there are also new songs like Running Gun.
A new recording version of the mega hit Wildfire, in a duet with
Bluegrass artist Carrie Hassler, is presented, too.
What makes Murphey's songs special is the way they were written. All lyrics are somewhat related to his way of living, true stories from his life or inspirations that he has picked along his travelled roads. And this legendary singer/songwriter has travelled and experienced a lot during his career. My favorites on this CD are Running Gun (recorded by Marty Robbins back in 1959), Rollin’ Nowhere and Southwestern Pilgrimage, a “homage to the open spaces of the Southwest” as Murphey writes in the explanations to this song.
This CD is a must for every lover of Cowboy songs, every bluegrass fan anyway and for everybody that only now starts to get interested in this kind of music
