For
decades, Bluegrass has been mistakingly labeled as Hillbilly Music. However,
it is exactly this genre, that shows musicians with instrumental and vocal
skills seasoned to perfection. Also in Europe, Bluegrass has found it's fans
and musicians who dedicate their skills to this old tyme musical style. Mainly
Eastern Europe is sprouting countless Bluegrass formations, but also the big
industrial nations, such as the UK, France, Germany or Switzerland are putting
out talent.
That is why Pieter Groenveld of Strictly Country Records has put forces together with Liz Meyer of European World of Bluegrass and has published a 2-CD set packed with 48 Bluegrass Formations, whereof some 40 are from Europe. So here you have an excellent way to hook yourself into this musical genre apart from the big names in the US. And for those more experienced music buffs: You will certainly find bands here, that you've never heard before.
Expectedly, the eastern regions are showing the highest representation with nations such as Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia. But alsofrom the far north of Finland down to Sweden, Holland, Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy in the south there are artists from different cultures united in their joint love for Bluegrass music.
